Both my mother and I read Howard’s book start to finish without putting it down. It’s an encouraging story of walking away from oppression. There are many societies that are oppressive and my heart goes out to those who feel they are trapped. Howard’s story shows one can walk away from these societies and have a fulfilling and productive life.

For the first time in my life, I sat in one spot and read this entire book! It was so interesting and thought-provoking! The style of writing makes you think the Author is sitting across the table sharing his unusual life experiences. The stories of his upbringing in a polygamous family are shocking! His progressive move into rigid, legalistic Christianity is eye-opening. Then, the Author encountered a God of love and grace! As I read, I could feel the authenticity of the Author’s heart as well as his pain, frustration and passion to find God’s purpose for his life. I absolutely loved this book and highly encourage others to read it! It will put an eternal spark in your life!

As an educator, it is so inspiring to see how Howard navigated his difficult and unusual childhood and young adulthood into a productive, successful, well adjusted and contributing citizen of his community. Some parts made me reach for a tissue as others had me grinning ear to ear. The unique and interesting theme made it a quick and easy read. So happy that Howard’s path led him to Rhonda and a strong faith. A must read!

Captivating! I found Howard Mackert to be an excellent storyteller! With the “Stay Home Stay Healthy” initiative, I was looking for a great book to read. I know Howard personally and have heard small parts of his life story, but never in detail like this. I started the book mid morning and finished it early afternoon. I couldn’t put it down!

This is an amazing story of a young boy who lived under very painful circumstances because of a religious group. As he grew into manhood he chose to make the great exchange. Instead of living like a victim, in rules and certainty, he allowed the miraculous forgiveness of God to love those who had wronged him. This book will challenge you to walk in the adventure of loving beyond your own human understanding.

“Addicted to Certainty” book was an enjoyable page turner for sure! What an engaging and descriptive personal account of searching for truth and discovering Love in the midst of difficult circumstances, confusion and pain. We especially appreciated how Howard tied everything together in the last chapters of the book, and shared the answers he’d been seeking since he was a little boy. We were freshly inspired to embrace our own experiences with uncertainty, knowing that our ultimate quest is to know Him. This book is a wonderful testimony of how our Heavenly Father pursues and transforms us when we surrender to Him.
